Sightron SIII LR 6-24 X 50 Mildot
This is the scope that started my appreciation for the new gen Sightron scopes. Hearing some very positive comments in the US, I brought one up just to see what the fuss was all about. Likely the first one in Canada.
I was simply floored by the optical qualities of that scope. Clarity, resolution, contrast, colour- it was all there in spades. I had a chance to do a side by side comparison with a similar mag big name scope and this Sightron beat it handily at 1035yds looking at details on a chimney. I could see detail with this SIII that were only blurry colours with the other $$$ scope.
The only other scope that struck with this level of optical performance was a S&B scope. At 1/3 the price, this Sightron is nipping at its heals.
Side parallax and eye objective focus are quick and easy to use allowing for very fine and precise adjustment. They work very well together giving a superb image with a razor sharp reticle.
Tracking has been a strong feature of all Sightron scopes of late. Critical in a scope designed for LR shooting. It also has massive amounts of elevation and windage to let you reach WAY out there.
A few quirks – the inner markings on the turrents have 0 in the center with 1,2 and 3 going in either directions. On the windage knob, this is a wonderful feature and if you center your scope properly, you will always know where your ZERO is.
On the elevation knob, it is not so good. Of course, you can just write the markings to correspond with the elevation setting you need but it is an annoyance that is so easily resolved. Yes, I have asked Sightron and they are considering a change (?)
The mildot reticle is also a bit heavy. You can still do fine work at extended distances but if used for ranging, will obscure some smaller targets.
Except for these couple of quirks, this is one of the best scopes in a variable 24X on the market today. For the price, nothing comes close
